After months of brainstorming, filming, and editing, the youth from our Betting on our Future (BOOF) campaign premiered their media projects at the annual Film Screening! The screening was held on May 20th, 2017 at the Shirakawa Community Center in San Jose. During the event, the “BOOFies” shared their graphics campaign, community survey data, and other gambling information. Friends, family, and community members were invited to learn about BOOF and participate in fun photo and ice breaker activities. Every year, the California Friday Night Live Partnership and the California Office of Problem Gambling host the Spotlight Festival in Anaheim, California. The Spotlight Festival is a space where youth all across California who participated in Betting on our Future (BOOF) project come together to celebrate their work and learn more about problem gambling and leadership. On April 8, 2017 AMPLIFY held its first ever Saturday workshop: Heart into Art. Through short art workshops, Heart into Art participants grew confidence, built community, and gained insight in creative fields. Local guest artists included Richard Tran from Ariel Dance Productions, local songwriter Brian Dublin, award-winning director John Raposas, actors Vincent Sanchez and Erin Woo, and Cathleen Joaquin from KollaborationSF. Each guest led a hands-on art workshop, from lyrical jazz dance to acoustic guitar to producing a theatrical film.
