Expressions

The Expressions group challenges youth to create arts & media projects from the ground up. Youth will first learn the basics from us and then they will plan and execute their original ideas. Inspired by our BOOF program, the Expressions group uses group art projects to build leadership skills.

This group will provide a space for youth to explore their interests and expand their skill set. Projects include photoshoots around the neighborhood and city, short films produced by the youth, and a final presentation. Afterschool and summer workshops are free of cost and are taught by experienced filmmakers and artists.

If you have a strong interest in arts & media and are looking to develop long-term creative and leadership skills, the Expressions group is for you. Recommended ages for this group is 13 to 18.

The Explore group introduces arts & media to youth as well as exposes them to new activities. Youth will learn the basics and put their new skills to the test with team projects. In addition to creative skills, the Explore group makes specific time for teaching life skills.

The priority for youth in this group is to show them that they can create art and projects just like anyone else. We encourage going outside the comfort zone and building confidence as youth navigate their new skill set.

If you have a basic interest in arts & media and are looking to explore new activities, the Explore group is for you. Recommended ages for this group is 10 to 12.

Mission

Betting on Our Future (BOOF) is a youth-driven statewide problem gambling awareness campaign supported by the California Friday Night Live Partnership and the California Office of Problem Gambling. As part of the AACI AMPLIFY program, this Youth Gambling Awareness Campaign is a part of an established media campaign that communicates the risks, signs and consequences of gambling among youth. The mission of the project is to create and execute interactive, high-energy presentations on youth problem gambling.

The main objective of BOOF is to empower youth to be advocates of change by raising awareness not only about the risks of addiction and problem gambling, but also by informing others about existing resources through media. BOOF is an after school program that recruits students to increase gambling awareness through youth-led media projects and community screenings.

Project Goals and Objectives

  • Produce 2 public service announcements (PSAs) to raise awareness in the local community and to be utilized by the Office of Problem Gambling in their statewide media campaign
  • Produce a 4-minute educational long-form video to raise awareness and educate the community about problem gambling among youth and the resources available
  • Produce a graphics campaign to assist in disseminating information about the national problem gambling hotline and local resources
  • Plan and a host a community screening where youth and community members will learn about the media projects and the effects of problem gambling
  • Plan and survey the community about their knowledge and awareness of problem gambling
